The book slipped from her fingers and fell to the stone floor with a quiet sound. She had known what her choice would entail, but as the chill of mortality crept into her body, she realized that she had not truly known. She had not known how the inevitability of death would feel when it washed over her. She shivered at the cold of the grave looming in her future, a dark, gaping maw that would swallow her.
The book lay on the stone floor, its pages bent. Arwen knew her love for Aragorn was worth the price, but she still felt fear.
