Drabble written for x_men100′s Myth challenge. Logan/Jean.

Everyone always said that Paris kidnapped Helen of Troy, but Jean believed otherwise. Helen felt trapped in a life that bored her, and Paris offered her a new life. He excited her, made her feel like a woman again, made her feel more beautiful than the hordes of suitors ever did.

It wasn’t her fault that a war started because she ran off with him.

Jean feels trapped and lonely. She watches Logan, watches him watching her with that hungry, adoring look in his eyes. She wonders if a war would start if she ran away with her own Paris.

X2; Logan/Jean UST. 108 words because I couldn’t bring myself to cut any more.

For Deke. Thanks for the lines. ;) The first two lines are from X2, so I suppose this could be a little spoilery.

—-

“Girls flirt with the bad boy, they don’t bring them home. They marry the good guy.”

“I could be the good guy.”

Jean turned to look at him, to see if he was being sincere or his typical smart-ass self. The look on Logan’s face unsettled her. It stirred up feelings, wishes, curiosity that she’d buried the day she met him. “No–”

“You don’t think that I might actually want a normal life? Have 2.5 kids and a white picket fence?” he said.

Jean couldn’t help smiling. “No.”

He shrugged. “Maybe not the kids and the picket fence, but I could. I could be the good guy.”

Fire

Summary: Summer, whiskey, nightmares, and fire. Logan/Jean. 658 words.

Notes: Speculative movieverse. Let’s say this takes place post X3, and I’ve had my wicked way with the movie’s plot. Written for the Redshipper Ficathon. For minor_ramblings, who asked for “whiskey shots, summertime, and a nightmare.” Hope you like it. :)

It was the second time in a week that Jean had woken up covered in sweat, and it wasn’t because of the summer heat, or at least not entirely. The air was sultry, even with the air conditioning, but she woke with her hair and nightclothes and sheets plastered to her body because of the nightmares.

Fire. Had she been a Christian, she would have thought of fire and brimstone, but that wasn’t what she dreamed. She dreamed of glorious, cleansing fire. It burned through her, and through her it burned everything else, reducing everything to ashes to be born again. It burned everything. She woke with visions of bones in her mind, children’s bones blackened by her fire, the bones of the school smoldering, all twisted metal beams and ruined architecture, and miles of scorched earth all around.

She sat up in bed and pulled her knees to her chest, willing her body to stop trembling, willing the bile to recede from her throat. It had taken her a while to get used to the fact that Scott would not be there beside her anymore when she woke with nightmares. He was gone, gone to California to start the West Coast branch of Xavier’s school, gone with her. Jean really couldn’t blame him for moving on; after all, she was dead for a year and half. It was perfectly understandable that Scott would have grieved and moved on with his life, even taking up with a new woman.

It still hurt a little, but the fire cleansed that pain away.

There would be no sleep for her that night. Swinging her legs off of the bed, she pulled on her robe and slipped out into the dark, silent hall. Many of the students, at least the ones who could pass as normal or had understanding families, had gone home for the summer. She thought that perhaps ten had stayed at the school, but she couldn’t remember. The fire made it difficult to focus these days. It was so quiet that she could have heard a pin drop, and while the silence was disconcerting, it was also a relief to not have dozens of minds working away, tapping at her mental defenses like little sledgehammers.

The kitchen was empty, as was the rec room. She knew where to find him, though, and when she pushed open to library’s door, there he sat in the light of a single desk lamp, a bottle of whiskey between his knees and a copy of London Fields in his hand.

“Bad dreams again?” he said, putting aside his book and his whiskey and patting the sofa beside him.

She sat and took the proffered shot glass full of amber liquor, gratefully tipping it back and feeling the burn down her throat. They didn’t speak, just sat in the silence, occasionally tossing back another shot of whiskey.

She had never understood why, but with him the fires banked. She was calm, almost happy, and best of all, she felt like herself. She felt the way she did before she died and came back with her hellfire. He wasn’t afraid of her, the way Scott and Ororo and most of the students were. He sat with her and talked about mundane things like the weather and books, and he flirted with her mercilessly. Being with him was like having a pleasant little chunk of her old life back.

She was no fool and certainly no dreamer; she knew that she would never be the same Jean Grey she was two years ago. But he didn’t care, and that made her happy.

She leaned against his shoulder, and he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her into the warmth of his body.

She knew that she shouldn’t get used to this feeling of normalcy, but she couldn’t help basking in it, reveling in the warmth of his body pressed against hers.

The cleansing fires were banked, but he sparked other, more dangerous fires within her.

Dear Jeannie

Rating: Work-Safe

Summary: Wolverine’s note and its repercussions. Ultimate. Wolverine/Jean. Spoilers for Ultimate X-Men #8. 395 words.

Notes: They didn’t show what Wolverine’s note said, so I get to take creative liberties. ;) And anyway, that look on Jean’s face just screamed for an angsty story. Don’t blame me, blame her. A few lines are quoted from Ultimate X-Men #8, and were written by Mark Millar.

~Jean’s telepathy~
*Xavier’s telepathy*

Feeling guilty. I hate guilt. It’s a terrible emotion, one that’s useless except to make us miserable.

I’m feeling guilty about what the Professor had to do to Bobby. But it was necessary, I tell myself. No matter how sorry for Bobby I feel. No normal life. I know how that feels, too. Once it gets out that you’re a mutant, you can kiss any kind of normal life goodbye, and it sucks to be a teenager without any friends.

I stare at the house of cards in front of me for a second, then pull it apart with my mind, rebuilding it upside down, balanced only on four cards. My control with my telekinesis has gotten very good, very fine. I can almost pick a lock. I stand back to admire my creation, putting my hands in the back pockets of my shorts.

Paper crinkles against my left hand, distracting me. I pull a folded piece of paper out of my pocket, confused. How did it get there? The card house wobbles slightly as I unfold it.

Dear Jeannie…

I want you to know that I never meant to hurt you or make you scared. I found something at the school and with you that I never thought I’d ever have… Something that I never knew I could feel. I hate to leave it because I don’t think I’ll ever find it again, but if my leaving is what will make you happy, then I’ll do it for you. I don’t want to hurt you any more than I already have. Good luck.

-Logan

He must have slipped it in my pocket this morning. He was always good at sneaky stuff. The house of cards crumbles, the bottom of it dropping out. It reacts the same way I do; I feel my stomach drop with guilt and hurt and anger at myself. I could run down to the garage and make sure that he’s gone, but I know that he is. He would never pull something like that, threatening to leave to try to make me rethink my bitch stance.

I feel miserable. I feel guilt.

~Excuse me, Professor. Are you still on mind?~

*Of course, Jean. What’s wrong?*

~Do you think I was being unreasonable when I said Wolverine was a deceitful, boorish lowlife and I hoped he burned in a thousand hells?~

Flashes (7 November 2001)

Disclaimer: They belong to Marvel, not me. Making money I am not.

Rating: Work-Safe

Description: POV (choose-your-own-X-woman), Wolverine. Babysnippet. 131 words.

Notes: Flashes are little snippets of life, focusing on various members of the X-Men, but mostly Wolverine, Jean Grey and Gambit, in all of the X-Men universes. There is no real continuity in Flashes; they are simply my way of getting little scenes in my head onto paper. :) If there’s any kind of shipperyness, it will be indicated in the description.

More notes: Devil Doll, I’m apologizing now. The summary should have been warning enough, so you can’t kill me for this. I’m sure you all can guess who I pictured when I wrote this, but feel free to substitute your favorite X-gal. ;)

Feedback is cherished. :)

He’s sprawled on his back on the bed, shirtless and wearing sweatpants, dozing with the baby on his chest. She’s sleeping soundly, as she always does when she can hear one of our heartbeats, clad only in her diaper. The muted, rainy sunlight filters in through the blinds.

I can’t remember ever seeing anything so beautiful in my life.

He stirs, shifting a little, and the baby stirs too, making a soft noise. His hand lifts on instinct to stroke her back, soothing her back into sleep. I crawl onto the bed as lightly as I can and curl up against his side, resting my head on his shoulder and my hand on top of his.

He turns his head and smiles at me.

I have everything I need right here.

Summary: Five Sentence Fic. Work-Safe. Arwen/Aragorn, requested by whsprsatmidnght
(I had to pull out my copy of LOTR and do research for this one, ha! It’s been a while since I’ve written this pair. The book timeline has been fiddled with a bit.)

The first time she saw him, he was Estel, still a boy in many ways, barely aware of his heritage and inheritance.

The second time she saw him, he was Beren, Elendil, an Elf-Lord of the West, and she knew that her destiny was intertwined with his.

The third time she saw him, he was Strider, the DĂșnadan, a weathered warrior who wandered in search of his fate.

The fourth time she saw him, he was Elessar Telcontar, king of men, and he became her husband.

But he was always Aragorn, and he was always in her heart until the end of her days.

The Bondage Thing

Date finished: 1 June 2008

Summary: Five sentence fic. Tony/Pepper, requested by last_archangel

The weirdest thing, if not the worst thing, Pepper ever caught Tony doing was probably the bondage thing. The pretty Japanese woman left in the morning, and Pepper couldn’t find Tony anywhere, not his workshop, not the kitchen, none of his usual morning-after haunts. As a last resort, she tried knocking on his bedroom door, and not getting a response, she opened it… and froze. Tony was artfully tied to the bed, trussed up with colorful ropes criss-crossing his magnificent, oh-my-GOD-naked body, his arms raised above his head and secured to the headboard, all wrapped up like a goddamn Christmas present.

Tony grinned sheepishly around a ball gag; Pepper sighed and went for a pair of scissors.
