He stared at the surface of the water, wishing he could part it the way she did, wishing he could see her bones and know that she’s dead.
Everyone else had moved on, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was still there, waiting for the right person to guide her from the depths back to the surface. He would plead with God, if He even existed, for her life, go down on his knees, because his life just wasn’t right without her.
Sighing, he turned and walked away, listening to pine needles crunch under his heels.
